People & Culture
The people of Uttar Pradesh trace their genesis back to the Indo-Aryans. As per the Census 2001, Hindus, 81% of the total population, form the majority. Muslim constitute 18% of the total state population. Hindi and Urdu are the chief spoken languages of the state. Women can be seen dressed in sarees, salwar-kameez, ghagra-choli etc. Men wear bushirts, pants, kurtas, pajamas etc.

The state has public airports in the cities of Agra and Varanasi, connecting to the key destinations of the country. However, the Indira Gandhi International Airport of Delhi serves as the nearest international airport from most of the state's cities. Kanpur, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Aligarh and Varanasi serve as the major railheads of the state. The rail-routes connect the state to all the major destinations of the country through regular mail and express trains.
